Cancer-Fighting Foods For Your Healthy Lifestyle

Everyone is afraid of cancer today, and most people are affected by it either directly or indirectly. But what many people do not know is that certain foods are powerful tools in the fight against cancer.

For instance, berries are packed with nutrients and chemicals that actually target and destroy carcinogens, or cancer causing chemicals, in the body. Red berries can boost the immune system cells that are responsible for fighting cancer. By simply adding these into your diet, you may give your body a better chance of avoiding or fighting off cancer.

Shiitake mushrooms are another food that is very helpful in fighting cancer. In fact, in Japan, doctors use an extract from these mushrooms in conjunction with chemotherapy to help patients have a better potential outcome after cancer treatments.

Interestingly, most of the cancer-fighting foods out there, with the exception of fish oils, come from plants. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds contain substances called phytochemicals that you cannot get from other sources. Many of these phytochemicals are powerful cancer fighters, but without a diet rich in plant-based foods, you cannot have these nutrients in your body doing what they are designed to do.

So do you have to get exotic and start eating foods you have never heard of to get these benefits? No, you do not. In fact, many of the cancer fighting foods are ones you likely eat or at least see eaten regularly. Broccoli, cabbage, kiwi, tomatoes, red grapes, garlic, tumeric, and green tea are all excellent sources of these important phytochemicals. You can even benefit from eating cocoa, provided you choose a dark variety. By adding more plant based foods into your diet, you will be in good shape.
