Balance is important when it comes to everything, and recent studies are showing that vitamin D can do more for your body than just build healthy bones. Research is showing that vitamin D can help prevent multiple sclerosis, help you build a stronger immune system, and even help prevent cancers such as those of the prostate, breast, and lung.

In addition to calcium, the sun is the most natural source of vitamin D for the human body. Although dermatologists have been warning patients of the sun’s harmful rays for years, studies are showing the sun plays a huge role in building a healthy immune system. Research shows that people who spend 30 minutes a day in the sun are more likely to fight off viruses such as influenza, and it can even help prevent heart disease.

Although vitamin D can build up your immune system and prevent against certain deceases and cancers, too much vitamin D can definitely have a negative effect on your body as well. A constant argument in the medical field is whether or not it has any correlation to emotions. Although this theory is still up for debate, symptoms of overdose include joint pain, high blood pressure, weight gain, and fatigue. If you experience any of these, review your diet journal and see if you’ve been consuming foods that contain too much vitamin D.

With Americans’ fast paced lifestyle, maintaining a healthy vitamin D balance is important. Everyone should have enough intake of vitamin D or vitamin D supplements to build a stronger immune system. Having the perfect balance of vitamin D is a great way to help jump start a healthier lifestyle.
